The Richmond Association for the Blind (part of the MAB) is a registered charity working locally to provide support to blind, partially sighted and deaf/blind people throughout the Borough of Richmond. Our staff and trained volunteers work together to provide a range of high quality services, information, advice and training, all aimed at helping visually impaired people to lead independent lives.
The Association offers the following services in Richmond:
Client 1 is in her forties and had to give up a promising career in nursing following acute diabetes resulting in a kidney transplant. With the support of one of our volunteers, who reads coursework onto tapes, she is studying for a Master's degree in counselling and psychotherapy.
Client 2 is in her nineties and suffers from macular degeneration. She lives in her own flat in a sheltered housing scheme. She used to play scrabble with a warden of the scheme but, following his departure, she had no one to challenge! Thanks to one of our volunteers, she is now able to have a regular game.
Client 3 had to give up work following his loss of sight. He is keen to keep fit and, thanks to one of our volunteers, he is now able to visit a local gym where they both have a regular workout.
Volunteers are always needed to help blind people in Richmond. So, if you can spare one or two hours a week/fortnight to help a person with a visual impairment, then please visit our Volunteering section.
Support Us The Richmond Association for the Blind is a registered charity and all of our activities are dependent upon contributions and donations.
